~*Independence Kitty*~ Pinkeep

Measuring about 7 inches tall and reaching about 5 inches across....she has a delightful Americana~whimsy about her.  The kitty has been needle punched with cotton threads, backed with red mattress ticking, and filled with fine sawdust.  I have trimmed her with a strand of hand spun wool using linen thread for the stitches.  She carries a bell that has been pinned to her hand with a rusty safety pin.  The bell has also been needle punched.... but filled with ultra fine sand.  (good for sharpening those dull needles)

As with all my works.... it has has been aged with my walnut & spice mix.  I have stitched my initials on the backside.

$60.00 (includes free travel fare to US or Canada.... insurance is optional)

SOLD thank you!!

  ~*Star Block*~ Pinkeep/Cupboard Hanger

The pinkeep is done in the sweetest of colors ~ olde, early blues and butter cream.  It measures about (but a little off square because it is hand-made) 6 by 5 inches.  The mini~rug alone is about 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches.  The needle punch was done with six strands cotton floss on weaver's cloth.... then stitched to the wool pillow.... and trimmed with hand~spun wool.  I made the pillow using a piece of hand~dyed wool and filled it with raw sheep's wool.  The stitches around the pillow have been done with linen thread in a very naive~prim stitch.  I have stitched the hanger on and my initials with more of this linen thread.

Hello my friends! My name is Betty Dekat. Thank you for sharing your time with my picture trail. I am a fiber, folk artist. My passions for creating are with rug hooking, needle punch, ‘tiny’ stitches, and occasionally sewing up raggedy prairie dolls.

In 1992, I graduated with an Art degree from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. I often say though ~ that I am now teaching myself to forget all I was taught in school. I strive to have my works have the ‘pure-primitive folk art’ look…. the appearance of the untrained-artist.

I am married to my best friend , Tony (who is very handsome too). He is a wonderfully, supportive husband and has given me the opportunity to fulfill my dreams. Together we have three fabulous boys ranging in age from five to twenty-three. Although we live in the country, we are not farmers or ranchers. We do however have a beautiful wheat field just outside our backdoor. We love the simple, quiet life the Kansas prairie offers us.

Please stroll through my picture trail  also and don’t hesitate to contact me with any comments or questions. Many warm smiles to you….. Betty

  ~*Thyme*~ Pinkeep

This pinkeep was inspired by Summer..... and my longing for a herb garden.  It measures about (but again... a little off because it is hand~made prim) 7 by 5 inches.  The mini~rug along is about 5 by 3 1/2 inches.  The image was stitched as one~of~a~kind.... I drew the design on the cloth and painted with threads.  The pillow has been made from a piece of hand~dyed wool (a dark evergreen) and filled with crushed walnut shells.  Thread colors for the mini~rug are deep gold, crimson, antique black, and leaf green.  The pillow has been aged with my walnut & spice mix and my initials have been stitched on the back.

~*Black Cat on the Moon*~ Pinkeep/Cupboard Hanger

This is my favorite one yet!  It is also done as an original.... one~of~a~kind.  Motifs are.... a crescent moon, black cat, and olde key.  It measures about 5 by 5 1/2 inches.... with the mini~rug alone being about 3 1/2 by 5 inches.  The woolen pillow has been made from a piece of hand~dyed antique black wool and filled with raw sheep's wool.  The hanger has been affixed to the pillow with a couple rusty safety pins.  I have also added a rusty bell for a little jingle.  The thread colors are of butter cream, antique black, and midnight gray..... also walnut & spice aged.  My initials have been stitched to the backside.
